Celebrating a Milestone and Our Volunteers

This month has been packed full of LOVE and I’m so grateful! I turned 40 this month, which has caused me to reflect on my life & all of the goodness God has bestowed on me. Being called to start a nonprofit has been a complete act of obedience & reliance upon God. I do not have a college degree, but do having a willingness to serve, to learn & above all, to love. Did I mention I’m a Valentine’s baby? Haha. Running this organization has put me in rooms I would have never been in, or before people that would have nothing to do with me. I have had to teach myself countless things, work on perfecting my flaws (have I mentioned I took a “F” in public speaking in high school?) and ask God to continually connect me with people much further along than I am. Through BHP, I have also met a ton of people that I would never have known otherwise. The things people are walking through behind closed doors can be heartbreaking, but it has also given me a high sense of gratitude for my own life. I consider it an honor to be able to serve people when they are going through such low times in their lives & am thankful I have the capacity to do so. Don’t get it wrong, I do not run this show alone! There’s a team here at BHP that shares the same heart for people that I do & it is the most amazing feeling to know that they believe in this mission, just as much as I do.

Friends and family had asked how I was going to spend the day for my big 4-0 and it didn’t take long for me to decide how I would spend another birthday here on earth. I asked my mom & girls to come along with me to deliver flower bouquets to some of our recipients & volunteers for BHP. You really are blessed to be a blessing to people! I did not tell anyone that we were coming, I didn’t want to burden them. The smiles on their faces as they opened their front doors was priceless. It will always be a special memory for me, my mom & my girls.

Delivering flowers to recipients was such a JOY

This month we also hosted a Volunteer Day and it was our best one yet! We had a great turnout of existing volunteers and those interested in joining the team! Brenda brought a great craft of decorating jars filled with Bible vereses, which everyone seemed to love. We had some food together, played a friendly game of dodgeball with ours kids and there were lots of laughs! My favorite part of the event was when we asked a few of our volunteers to share their “why” or their favorite BHP memory. It really touched my heart to see the impact, not only from my point of view, but from theirs. These volunteers give life to BHP-each one of them brings something special to the organization & makes it operate in such a unique way. I am forever grateful for those who want to give of their time & talents to serve others for the mission of BHP!
